Childress is a 6′ tall, 190-pound sophomore safety out of Houston, Texas. The Wildcats have already added Keidron Smith and Jordan Robinson from the portal this offseason.
Zion Childress played in 12 games in 2021 with eight starts. He appeared in 24 games in his two seasons at Texas State. Childress has a knack for finding the football as he had 74 tackles from his secondary position.
A highly sought-after player in the portal, he visited Washington and TCU before announcing his decision to commit to Kentucky. With three years of eligibility remaining, Childress should make an impact in the Kentucky secondary and potentially right away. Injuries have depleted the secondary already so there is room for transfers to play immediately within the program.
I’d rate Childress as a four-star transfer. He will likely become a starter in the secondary at some point during his career with the potential to do it as early as this season. His tackling ability and sense of getting downhill to stop run-heavy offenses will prove to be valuable in the SEC. Childress could work on his ball skills, he only has one career interception but will look to change that at Kentucky.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
