Dylan Raiola – 2024 five-star QB – Ohio State Commit

The Basics

Dylan Raiola is a class of 2024 five-star quarterback from Chandler, Arizona. 247Sports currently have him ranked as the top overall player nationally, regardless of position. The 247 composite rankings have him as the eighth overall player, the third overall quarterback and the top player in Arizona.

Via his 247 offers list, before announcing the decision Raiola accrued offers from schools including Alabama, Florida State, Baylor, Georgia, Iowa State, Miami, Michigan, Nebraska, UNC, Notre Dame, Ole Miss, Ohio State, Penn State, Oregon, TCU, Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, USC, Utah, and Clemson.

His father Dominic Raiola is a former pro, having played center for the Detroit Lions. Between his uncle being an assistant coach for Nebraska and his father being an alum, many thought that Nebraska would be a player for the talented young QB. Despite all the built-in recruiting advantages for Nebraska, Raiola decided to commit to the Ohio State University Buckeyes and head coach Ryan Day.

Roster Outlook

According to OurLads.com, the projected Ohio State depth chart at QB consists of CJ Stroud (So.), Kyle McCord (Rs Fr.), and Devin Brown (Fr.)

Game Predictions for the 2025 Georgia Bulldogs

How he fits and opportunities for playing time

Looking at Raiola’s game film, there is much to be excited about. He perfectly fits the mold of the new generation of quarterbacks whose mechanics and playstyle resemble that of a player like Patrick Mahomes. At just 16 the kid has an absolute cannon of an arm. He has near-perfect throwing mechanics, displaying the accuracy to deliver the ball to anywhere on the field along with the touch to make different throws from tough angles. Like a Mahomes, one thing that truly stands out is his ability to make highly accurate throws on the move.

Mechanically, Raiola has a smooth throwing motion with a quick release. Additionally, his throwing motion remains largely unaffected when delivering throws under pressure. When the pocket breaks down, he instinctually utilizes his legs to extend plays and his arm can bail his team out of bad situations.

He displays excellent leadership and decision-making on the field. Listening to him speak in interviews and seeing how he carries himself; I have little doubt he will be a great representative of the OSU program off the field as well.

In my opinion, Dylan Raiola is one of the most exciting prospects I have ever seen in 2023 or 2024. The ceiling is extremely high for this kid. If CJ Stroud elects to enter the draft a year from now, I would expect Raiola to compete for the starting spot as a freshman. The kid has potential superstar ability and if given the chance, I think he dangerous early on in his career. Realistically, barring unforeseen circumstances, there should be no reason he isn’t starting by his sophomore year. Just looking at how he plays, you get the feeling that this kid may be too good to keep off the field.

Overall, this is an elite pick-up for Ryan Day and the Ohio State Buckeyes. This move helps Ohio State continue to cement its place in the upper echelon of the best college football programs in America. Again, great pick-up here, I look forward to seeing how awesome Dylan Raiola can be as a Buckeye.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
