Fact or Fiction

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image source=”featured_image” img_size=”large”][vc_column_text]In today’s Fact or Fiction I look at three big recent topics in college football and decide whether the statement is indeed FACT or if it’s FICTION.

Alabama is out for Arch Manning

Farrell’s take: FICTION

Let’s slow our roll for a second here, shall we? If you had asked me last fall where Arch Manning was going I would have said Georgia and it was a done deal. Then after they flirted with Caleb Williams I would have told you Texas. And then after another visit to Alabama for the 2023 QB I would have said it’s even between Alabama and Texas. Now the Crimson Tide have been offering a few 2024 QBs, Jalen Milroe looked amazing in the spring for the Tide and now we have UGA and Texas trending again. This changes often. Alabama is still Alabama and Nick Saban is still Nick Saban. They will be in it until they don’t want to be.

College football is begging for government help again

Farrell’s take: FACT

This annoys me and I don’t know why. SEC commissioner Greg Sankey and Pac-12 commissioner George Kliavkoff each spoke to individual senators from congress to ask for governmental assistance with NIL. Remember, this was the same thing outgoing NCAA president Mark Emmert did as well — just waiting and hoping there would be federal regulations around NIL. And guess what? The government will provide all the lip service they want but the genie is out of the bottle here. There was zero forward-thinking on the NCAA’s part as state after state passed NIL allowances and now we have a big old mess. And yes, the government will eventually have to get involved and clean it up — but they aren’t in a hurry. This entire situation is like ignoring countless signs of a medical issue hoping it will go away only to be diagnosed with a near-terminal disease and hoping the doctors can save you. It’s somewhat embarrassing.

Emory Jones can be successful at Arizona State

Farrell’s take: FACT

He has incredible arm talent and always has. He can run the football and is physical. He just struggles with accuracy and reading defenses at times. Who am I scouting? It could be Malik Willis or it could be Emory Jones. They are similar. Willis is a better and more explosive athlete but Jones has all the tools to be good. I felt he should have dropped down a level of football like Willis did but he’s back in the Power Five battling Paul Tyson for the Sun Devils. And he has the tools to be successful given the brief success of Jayden Daniels. Daniels is a smarter and better passer but Herm Edwards can bring the best out of Jones.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
