Fact or Fiction

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image source=”featured_image” img_size=”large”][vc_column_text]In today’s Fact or Fiction I look at three big recent topics in college football and decide whether the statement is indeed FACT or if it’s FICTION.

Bru McCoy will be a star at Tennessee

Farrell’s take: FICTION

I want to say yes, I really do. McCoy is a former five-star guy and I was a part of ranking him that high out of high school. He’s huge, he’s fast, he’s athletic and he’s one of those rare players who could be a star at WR, TE, or even LB. But he’s also wasted his talent so far and I can’t see that changing — until I see it changing. He picked Texas out of high school but was back home at USC quickly and had many off-field issues and little on-field film. Many schools I spoke to wouldn’t touch McCoy based on fear of his off-field issues. That doesn’t mean he can’t be great. But it means it could be less likely. He’d be a monster in this Vols offense. But I’m wary.

Lincoln Riley is too smart to be as foolish as people think

Farrell’s take: FACT

I’ve talked to a ton of people about the portal and NIL over the last week with the Jordan Addison situation and all the rumors out there. And something occurred to me — Lincoln Riley isn’t a moron. He’s a smart man. In fact, he’s a very smart man and very successful. Yes, he may be a villain to the folks in Norman, Oklahoma and maybe he handled a few things wrong. But let’s be clear — he’s not dumb enough to tamper with one of the top wide receivers in the country to get him to transfer to USC in such a public manner with millions of made-up dollars thrown around. Addison may end up at USC but it will be about his relationship with Caleb Williams more than anything else.

Gene Smith is right, NCAA has to go

Farrell’s take: FACT

Ohio State Athletic Director said it right, the NCAA has to go. Okay he didn’t say it in those words but he was pretty clear — the 10 FBS football conferences need to govern themselves and the NCAA can handle the other sports. The problem? I personally think an independent company should oversee this governing and have the final say. But it has to be a true business venture and not some joke that has become the NCAA. College football is a business, let’s get someone from the NFL to lead it.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
