Fact or Fiction

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image source=”featured_image” img_size=”large”][vc_column_text]In today’s Fact or Fiction I look at three big recent topics in college football and decide whether the statement is indeed FACT or if it’s FICTION.

Derrick Stingley Jr. will land with the Texans at No. 3 overall.

Farrell’s take: FICTION

This is the rumor and it’s not ridiculous but it seems like a head fake to me a couple of days before the draft. Lovie Smith likes corners but is he making the call and would they really pass up an elite edge rusher or tackle for a guy who has had one good season in 2019? He’s an exceptional talent but it’s a risk and I don’t think they take it. If he slides to No. 13 then of course.

Only one QB will be taken in round one.

Farrell’s take: FICTION

Malik Willis will go round one but the talk is that he’s the only QB with NFL upside — in the entire draft. That may or may not be true and is doubtful but we know this is a QB league and someone will reach for a QB. Most likely it’s the Saints or Steelers but it could be someone trading from outside the first round as well to sneak into the late part of round one to land one. At least two will be taken though.

CJ Stroud is No. 1 for 2023.

Farrell’s take: FACT

Not Bryce Young from Alabama? Not Will Anderson from Alabama? Nope. Stroud is 6-foot-3 which gives him the edge over Young and recent failures by short QBs like Baker Mayfield and Kyler Murray as No. 1 overall picks hasn’t helped. Anderson would be No. 1 in this draft with ease but there are no elite QBs so next year he’ll settle for No. 2 behind Stroud who looked as smooth as ever in the spring game.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
