Fact or Fiction

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image source=”featured_image” img_size=”large”][vc_column_text]In today’s Fact or Fiction I look at three big recent topics in college football and decide whether the statement is indeed FACT or if it’s FICTION.

There is more excitement in LA than in Norman

Farrell’s take: FICTION

A lot was made of a record spring game crowd at USC this past weekend as a reported 33,000+ were in attendance. Based on videos and photos it doesn’t look like USC came close to that number but there is more excitement around the program since the Pete Carroll days because of the Lincoln Riley hire. But let’s be clear. Oklahoma had nearly 70,000 people at their spring game and all photo and video evidence backs this number. That’s even more than Riley could muster while there so Brent Venables has ramped up the excitement for the Sooners. And let’s be honest, the fans are pissed. And a pissed group of players, coaches and fans at OU could be tough to beat.

Jimbo Fisher has been a top five hire over last five years

Farrell’s take: FICTION

Why is this the statement? I did a 5,4,3,2,1 of the best coaching hires since 2017 and Fisher didn’t make the cut. I had Sam Pittman, Mel Tucker, Ryan Day, Lane Kiffin and Dave Aranda and felt bad leaving off Luke Fickell at Cincinnati. But Jimbo? Nah. He had a good 2020 COVID year where the Aggies just missed the playoff but last season wasn’t good despite a win over Alabama. 8-4 just isn’t good enough at this stage with a talented roster, QB injuries or not. This year needs to be a 10 win season and he can be considered.

Texas recruiting is best in Big 12 for 2023

Farrell’s take: FACT

Texas Tech has the early headlines but they have 18 commitments already. Texas has only five but I have all five as mid-level four star prospects with three in the top 100 range. I’m going quality over quantity here and have Texas ahead of Baylor with Texas Tech No. 3 in the Big 12 now.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
