Fact or Fiction

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”2625″ img_size=”large”][vc_column_text]In today’s Fact or Fiction I look at three big recent topics in college football and decide whether the statement is indeed FACT or if it’s FICTION.

Sarkisian was correct to silence veteran Moro Ojomo

Farrell’s take: FACT

The veteran defensive linemen told the media that the younger players on the team were focused on the wrong things and selfish (in so many words) and that the culture at Texas needs to be changed. And head coach Steve Sarkisian shut him down and said he won’t be speaking to the media again anytime soon. And that’s the right call. Whether Ojomo is right or wrong, Sarkisian can’t have players talking about internal culture and speaking for the entire team on that subject. It does him no good — zero. Even if it’s true this should be addressed behind the scenes and is not for public consumption. This sends a message to other players.

JT Daniels is worth 3 additional wins for West Virginia.

Farrell’s take: FICTION

West Virginia went 6-7 last season so saying Daniels can make them 9-4 is a big ask with their schedule. They have road out of conference games at Pitt and Virginia Tech and the Big 12 schedule won’t be easy next season with games at Texas, at Iowa State and at Oklahoma State. I’m assuming a similar season will happen for the Mountaineers with a .500 season leading to a bowl.

Ed Orgeron was telling Irish players what they wanted to hear.

Farrell’s take: FACT

Ed O has been in South Bend with his sons having them get a feel for Notre Dame as future coaches in college football. They have some experience already but it can’t hurt to visit Notre Dame where Marcus Freeman takes over. Orgeron tried to hire Freeman as his defensive coordinator before he chose Notre Dame and of course his replacement at LSU is Brian Kelly who has led Notre Dame to some heights. So when Oregon told the team they would win it all under Freeman this season, it’s rah rah Coach O talk and probably a slight slap at Kelly. Kelly led Notre Dame to the national title game and the college football playoff twice so if Freeman can win it all it would certainly hurt Kelly’s legacy. And Orgeron is human after all and he probably doesn’t like his replacement at LSU.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
