Fact or Fiction

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”1477″ img_size=”large”][vc_column_text]In today’s Fact or Fiction I look at three big recent topics in college football and decide whether the statement is indeed FACT or if it’s FICTION.

Dabo Swinney is wrong in his approach to the transfer portal

Farrell’s take: FACT

I like Dabo and his traditional college football thinking but in 2022 it just doesn’t make sense. He recently said he will only use the transfer portal if he has a glaring need at a certain position and that’s nice and all — but it puts him at a competitive disadvantage. If other programs winning and competing for national titles are using the portal regardless of need — and they are — then he’s going to fall behind. UGA won it all last year with cornerback Derion Kendrick from Clemson as a key component and they beat Alabama who lost in big reason because transfer Jameson Williams was injured early in the title game. Clemson lost to Ohio State mainly because Justin Fields and Trey Sermon dominated them on defense. So where is the “if you can’t beat them, join them” attitude? I would have expected it by now and each year he stays away from it will lead Clemson further from a national title.

Travon Walker will go No. 1 overall

Farrell’s take: FICTION

There has been some talk of the UGA defensive end going first overall but I think the Jaguars go offensive tackle and take Evan Neal from Alabama. Walker won’t last beyond pick No. 10 but right now I’m hearing Aidan Hutchison will be DE1 in this draft and after that it’s about personal taste for a team. Walker could go as high as No. 3 to the Texans or fall to the NY Jets at No. 10 but I’d be surprised if he was No. 1.

Ryan Day is really as good a person as he seems

Farrell’s take: FACT

I’ve seen coaches come off as good guys and know they really aren’t but when it comes to Day he’s legit. His comments on Dwayne Haskins and the Ohio State tribute for Dwayne at the Spring Game are what coaches are supposed to do but having known Day for nearly 20 years, trust me when I tell you he cares about his players. Let’s just say if that was Urban Meyer up there talking about Haskins I’d be less apt to believe it.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
