[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”1020″ img_size=”large”][vc_column_text]While Jackson State has received the majority of the HBCU publicity since the arrival of Deion Sanders as head coach, several other programs have quietly been making their mark. This has been especially true in the transfer portal, where Tennessee State made a splash last week with the addition of three important commitments.
Ohio State linebacker K’Vaughan Pope, Houston defensive back Gleson Sprewell, and FIU receiver JJ Holloman, who signed with Georgia coming out of high school, all made their decisions public. Joining them were also Arkansas kicker Matthew Phillips and Murray State offensive lineman Chris Georgia, who was a four-year starter with the Racers.
Holloman discussed his decision to commit to the Tigers.
“The initial reason was the family atmosphere and seeing the bond amongst the coaches, as well as knowing and understanding what all I can bring to the table and have an opportunity to cement myself in the history books at such as special place,” said Holloman.
Since entering the portal, Holloman has kept himself busy by physically preparing himself for the next stage of his career, while also helping the next generation of wide receiver.
“I have been actively working out and training everyday as well as serving as the wide receiver coach at my former high school,” he said. “Having the opportunity to take the knowledge I have over to them at a younger age, to see them grow and dominate for years to come.”
The Tennessee State program also made news nationally last week when they announced that they would be the first HBCU to play Notre Dame. The game will take place on September 2, 2023, which will give the Tigers a further opportunity to showcase their brand on national television in South Bend.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
