Buffalo linebacker/Edge rusher Lonnie Rice has entered the transfer portal. Rice was a 3-star safety out of high school but transitioned into a linebacker at the University of Buffalo. Rice was recruited out of high school by Buffalo, Air Force, Navy and Albany as a high school recruit. He did not see any game action at Buffalo due to some Covid issues. Rice is a speed rusher with a growing arsenal of weapons as he learns his new position. The potential here is untapped so It is hard to project the impact rice will have at his next stop.

However teams already believe him as Syracuse has offered him and hosted him on a visit. When speaking with Rice about his Syracuse visit he mentioned that when Umari Hatcher scored during the spring game, the fan response is what created a memorable moment for him. As of now he has no timeline to commit because there are a few more schools he would like to get out and see. Three other schools I’d keep an eye on are Temple as Rice is a Pennsylvania native growing up 30 minutes from the Owls campus. Another is Wake Forest, the Demon Deacons have to improve in basically every area and they’ve shown some interest in Rice. The final school is Kansas, former Buffalo head coach Lance Leipold is the head coach there and Chris Simpson who recruited rice is now the Jayhawks linebackers coach.
