Scouting Report

Byrne has good height and very good weight. Displays solid AA with good play strength, contact balance, solid footwork, and explosiveness. Shows good gap-blocking ability in the run game which is seen in his good mental processing to locate his assignment (or pass off if needed), execute blocks, and climb to the second level when needed. Also shows good hands/initial punch with good play strength, placement, competitive toughness, and footwork to drive defenders back and finish his block. Displays solid zone-blocking ability on reach blocks or as a lead blocker seen with good mental processing and solid footwork. Shows solid pass protection ability to establish his set points with solid footwork while maintaining a strong base/anchor against different pass rushers. Adequate lateral agility; isn’t going to blow you away with how he moves in space. Marginal form; doesn’t play with winning leverage at all. Adequate depth in his set points/pass protection; doesn’t get deep enough at times, which results in rushers moving right around him. Projects as a developmental OT who will take a couple of years to become a starter, but if needed to start early, could move inside to highlight his strengths as a run-blocker.
