A former All-American linebacker at Georgia more than a decade ago, Jarvis Jones had returned to the program as an assistant. Now he is on the move to a very familiar destination as he was recently named the next head coach at Carver High School in Columbus, Georgia.

Jones was a Class of 2009 four-star recruit at Carver where his play earned him offers from many of the top programs in the country. He took official visits to USC, Georgia, LSU, Texas and Florida before committing to the Trojans on National Signing Day in February. However, he transferred back home after only one season in Los Angeles.

With the Bulldogs, Jones excelled. In only two seasons in Athens he totaled 155 tackles, 45 tackles for loss, 28 sacks and nine forced fumbles. His performance earned him two All-American honors and being named the 2012 SEC Defensive Player of the Year.

This led him to be selected with the No. 17 overall pick during the 2013 NFL Draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers. In four seasons with the Steelers he had 130 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, six sacks and four forced fumbles before seeing his NFL career come to a conclusion.

Jones joined the Georgia coaching staff in 2019, first as a assistant linebackers coach and later as a player connection coordinator. He now returns to Carver High School, which has long been one of the top programs in Georgia. This includes winning the Georgia Class 2A state championship in 2024.
