Once college careers conclude, no matter the level of success the player experienced on the field, nobody knows where their future path will lead. For former Maryland quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa, his path will next take him to Germany to play for the Hamburg Sea Devils.

Tagovailoa, brother of former Alabama and current Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, began his collegiate career with the Crimson Tide before transferring to Maryland. He had an extremely successful career with the Terps, passing for 11,256 yards and 77 touchdowns while being a three-year starter.

After going undrafted in 2024, Tagovailoa had an unsuccessful mini-camp tryout with Seattle before signing with the CFL’s Hamilton Tiger-Cats. With the Tiger-Cats he began the season on the practice roster, then dressed for the final eight games. During his limited time on the field, he completed his only pass attempt for six yards, while rushing three times for 10 yards and one touchdown. However, his time with Hamilton ended on May 11th when he was released.

Now he joins the Sea Devils, who are 0-1 after a 13-12 loss in their opener to the Madrid Bravos. With their next game tomorrow, at Prague, it is unlikely that Tagovailoa will see the field too soon as he adjusts to his new environment and offense. The regular season runs until August 17th so there is plenty of time for Tagovailoa to make an impression in Europe this summer.
