RECRUITING: Did Legacy School Wait Too Long to Offer Son of Former All-American?

Did a legacy school wait too long to offer the son of a former All-American?

Having the son of a former star player become an elite recruit is usually a huge advantage for any program, especially if that program is annually one of the best in the country. That should be the current situation for Georgia, but the Bulldogs may have waited too long to offer linebacker Thomas Davis Jr.

Blessed to receive a scholarship to Georgia.🐶 Thank you @CoachSchuUGA !@andycapone_whs @BigDubFootball @RivalsFriedman @Rivals @samspiegs @ChadSimmons_ @On3Recruits @247Sports @247recruiting @AnnaH247 pic.twitter.com/HXrJEqrSJu

Davis Jr. received his offer on May 7th and used a picture of his father, Thomas Davis Sr., in the announcement. His father was an All-American at Georgia before playing 16 seasons in the NFL, which included three Pro Bowls and one All-Pro season.

The issue with the timing is that Davis Jr. committed to Notre Dame in November. At the time of his commitment, he also considered Ohio State and North Carolina. So, in the last two weeks, the Bulldogs have been working overtime trying to make up for lost time.

Davis Jr. obviously isn’t a stranger to the program, but Georgia has recently visited him and is putting in serious effort to get him on campus for an official visit during the spring. This has yet to be scheduled, as his only visit at this time is to South Bend on June 20th. There are plenty of available weekends during the next month to add a visit to Athens, but can Georgia pull it off?

Even if they don’t get a visit during the spring, it is unlikely that the Bulldogs will back off. An earlier offer could have made this much easier for them, but despite the delay, Notre Dame will likely have to sweat this one out until the day he signs with the Irish.
