With the 2025 college football season just around the corner, pundits and fans are outlining those talents they feel are most likely to light up the proceedings, with 20-year-old USC Trojans wide receiver Ja’Kobi Lane being among those who are getting the most mentions and rave reviews.
Trojans head coach Lincoln Riley saw his team manage a relatively weak 7-6 record in his third season in charge, albeit a first in the Big Ten Conference, and he will be among those expecting the Los Angeles Coliseum side to mount a better challenge in 2025, and Lane will be a key part of that.
Lane is considered by many as a likely first-round NFL Draft pick, and fans who like to wager on such an eventuality can find out all they need to know from this useful guide on how to bet on the NFL. This includes useful insights as well as access to great promos, so what are you waiting for?
Among those lauding Ja’Kobi Lane is college football analyst David Pollack, who offered a very encouraging assessment of what the Arizona-born talent is capable of achieving in the game.
“Listen, Lincoln Riley didn’t forget how to coach offense. I think another year with a quarterback that, by the way, I saw plenty of flashes of really, really good,”
“I need less mistakes, but a year in the system, I think helps. But, Ja’Kobi Lane, dude. He only had 500 yards receiving a year ago, but he had 12 (touchdowns), and he was the big-play threat,”

“He is 6’4”. You know, he can make those big plays.” David Pollack added.
Lincoln Riley is also happy with the trajectory shown by Lane, stating.
“He’s taking his craft more seriously, he’s taking the leadership more seriously,”
“Haven’t had some of the emotional ups and downs that at times have plagued him early in his career and if that continues, he’ll be set up to have a great season and most importantly be a really good leader for this team.”
“Some of the older receivers are gone now, and he’s getting to the point where he not only needs to mature individually but this team needs him in terms of the leader and presence that he is because he does have an infectious energy, competitive energy. It affects our football team,” Riley concluded.
Indeed, it’s the maturity of the player that could be key, seeing how Lane adjusts to being a more senior figure in the locker room will say as much about what Ja’Kobi can make of his talents as anything on the field.
Riley may feel confident enough to use more of Ja’Kobi Lane and Makai Lemon, as opposed to spreading the load, and it’s a good ‘problem’ for any head coach to have, and one that USC Trojans fans will be watching keenly and judging from the stands in 2025.
