June has become the most important recruiting month of the recruiting year for many programs. Many schools pile up the majority of their commitments during the month, but at the same time there is always the threat of decommitments. Louisville had been piecing together a very successful class, but a string of recent decommitments has quickly raised some doubts.

Offensive lineman Benjamin Corhei (Valdosta, GA) was the most recent decommitment, as he flipped to USF just nine days after committing to the Cardinals. He became the sixth decommitment of this class and the third of June, following two defensive linemen, Kevontay Hugan (Saraosta, FL) and Josiah Hope (Radcliff, KY). Hugan quickly flipped to Indiana while Hope committed to Purdue less than two weeks later.
Two previous decommitments came from higher ranked players. The first was from linebacker Izayia Williams (Tavares, FL), who has had one of the more chaotic recruiting process’ of any player in this class. After receiving his first offer from the Cardinals way back in November, 2023, he committed by the end of the month. However, he then decommitted in January, 2024. He then committed to Syracuse in April, but decommitted in August, committed to Florida State in September, but decommitted in November, committed to Florida in March, 2025, but in May flipped to Ole Miss. He has since taken official visits to Penn State, Georgia, Florida, USF and Colorado, despite being committed to the Rebels. While he is considered a four-star linebacker with a high ceiling, this recruiting loss by Louisville isn’t one that they should lose much sleep over.

As for Joel Ervin (Fort Myers, FL), he surprised many with a commitment to the Cardinals after taking a visit in March, but after a string of Southeast visits that followed, he decommitted two weeks later and committed to Miami soon after.

While these losses all hurt in one way or another, it is the possibility of another loss that should have Louisville fans concerned. Four-star quarterback Briggs Cherry (Chattanooga, TN) committed to Louisville in late January. The good and bad news for the Cardinals, is that his stock has soared since then. And now it is at its highest point after an impressive performance at the recent Elite 11 Camp in California. As expected, this caught the attention of programs, who have since moved Cherry up their boards. It is vital that Louisville keeps Cherry happy and committed.
As long as Louisville continues to win on the field, which hasn’t been a problem since head coach Jeff Brohm returned to campus, the Cardinals’ recruiting classes will be successful. But how successful is the key. If they want to become a top-tier program they need to keep their commitments solid, which has been a problem this year. And most importantly they need to keep their top quarterback commitments solid, which this year is Cherry.
Every recruiting class experiences some highs and lows, but the key is how a program responds after the lows hit.
