As it’s currently the middle of 2025, it may seem odd that a Class of 2031 recruit just picked up his first offer. However, in today’s crazy world of recruiting nothing should be too surprising. This is especially true when the recruit is the son of one of the most successful players to every play at the offering school.
Devin Hester, who is now 42-years-old, was an All-American with the Miami Hurricanes and is currently enshrined at the school’s Hall of Fame. He then went on to enjoy a Hall of Fame career in the NFL after being selected in the second round of the 2006 Draft by the Chicago Bears. With the Bears, and then the Falcons, Ravens and Seahawks, he established himself as arguably the best return specialist in the league’s history.
While he also added 255 receptions for 3,311 yards and 16 touchdowns, it was his return abilities that earned him his entry into the NFL Hall of Fame. He still holds records for most career return touchdowns (20), punt return touchdowns (14) and return touchdowns in a season (six in 2007).
Where this offer takes his son, Drayton, is anyone’s guess, but it is safe to say that his playing career is on the right path. And while many additional offers might come his way in the coming years, another safe assumption that the Canes will be a player until the end.
