A House is Not a Home: Why are Shedeur and Shilo Buying Prime Real Estate?

How Much Money Are Shedeur and Shilo Making in NIL? Was this just a choreographed illusion to get recruits to buy into the fact that Prime is in Boulder for the long haul?

Coach Prime’s sons, Shedeur Sanders and Shilo Sanders, joined by their brother and content producer Deion Sanders, Jr., purchased a home in Colorado for their father so that they know that he will be okay after they graduate and look to leave the nest and have successful careers after college.

“For y’all three to want to put it together… So y’all make sure I’m straight when you’re gone is unbelievable,” Coach Prime said.

Coach Prime, who has a personal net worth in excess of $45 million, according to Yahoo Finance, accepted the gracious gesture from his sons, and the moment was captured on social media by Well Off Media, a production company that is owned and operated by Deion, Jr. The home has spectacular views of the Flatirons and was deemed an outstanding find by the boys.

The home is spectacular and fit for a head coach with an ego the size of the Big XII footprint. Prime, it seemed, was genuinely moved by the gesture and accepted it graciously. He was clearly proud of his sons’ accomplishment.

“You know what’s awesome, though? My three sons had the thought process that they wanted me to see this. Because you all want to make sure I’m straight,” Coach Prime said.

Prime has been said to have gone fishing in lakes, not just the transfer portal, and there is a lake right behind his new abode. This is similar to the other homes owned by Prime as he maintains likes outside his other homes and keeps them stocked up with plenty of fresh water catches.

“You guys are chipping in, trying to help me. I like that,” Coach Prime said to his sons. “Y’all are natural givers,”.

The mansion’s amenities, according to ESPN, include a workout room, a massage room, a wine cellar, an indoor movie theater, and an outdoor pool.

Two questions come to mind. First, why did the college-aged kids buy their Hall of Fame, multi-millionaire dad a house? Second, how did they come up with the money to pay for it?

Deion the elder is not destitute by any stretch of the imagination. He does not need to be financially supported by his young sons. While it is a nice gesture, Prime is going into his second year of a five-year $29.5 million contract with the Buffaloes. That is before any incentives or bonuses.

Perhaps it was a recruiting ploy to give the illusion that Prime is poised to stay in Colorado for a while. It should be noted that he maintains homes around the country that he does not actually live in, so that would not be a good premise.

His contract calls for a renegotiation period after year three, and that is when Prime will get a big boost in pay. It is no secret that in his first year of coaching the Buffs, Prime excitement has brought in a whopping $280 million to the Boulder community and the University.

His base pay is $500,000, with the remainder of his compensation tied to various media obligations, promotional duties, and student-athlete development.

The value of Sanders’ contract increases by $200,000 every year he is in Boulder. His first-year salary paid about $5.5 million, and the current version of the contract taps out at $6.3 million in 2027.

Prime’s contract at Colorado contains the following monetary incentives for potential team achievements. He will receive a $450,000 bonus if Colorado is invited to a New Year’s 6 bowl game and $750,000 if the Buffs somehow win a national championship.

The more attainable incentives include:

  • $150,000 if Colorado wins six games in a season and reaches bowl eligibility
  • $100,000 for each additional win beyond the first six
  • $150,000 if Colorado wins the Big 12
  • $75,000 if Colorado plays in a Big 12 Championship game
  • $150,000 if Deion Sanders is named National Coach of the Year
  • $75,000 if Deion Sanders is named Big 12 Coach of the Year
  • $50,000 each time Colorado attains a team APR of at least 965

Not bad for a coach who led his team to a 4-8 record in 2023 and cannot recruit high school players, the life blood of any college program.

The next question is how did three college kids pay for this mansion that many adults who work their whole lives will never be able to afford?

Deion, Jr. makes money with his production company and earns money by running the social media for Prime and the Buffs. I get that. I also understand that Shedeur and Shilo make money through promotions and NIL income. But the home, which has a value that has not been released, must sell for at least $1 million.

Earlier this month, Shedeur and Shilo linked up with Grammy-winning singer and songwriter Pharrell Williams in Paris and modeled the Louis Vuitton men’s line at the 2024 Louis Vuitton Men’s Fall-Winter show.

I applaud the young men for being successful financially at such a young age, but you have to have a significant chunk of change for a house like that, and it makes you wonder what their Louis Vuitton luggage was actually stuffed with.

NIL contracts are not available under public records laws, as the players are not employees but independent contractors and do not work for the state but earn their monies from the companies or the collective that contracts with them for their NIL.

It is unknown how much the two players earn, but it is projected to be significant, based upon the fact of who they are, what their surname is, and the fact that Shedeur is riding around in Rolls Royce, a fact that future Hall of Famer Tom Brady did not overlook last season.

“I think he needs to get his ass in the film room…. Less time in the car and more time in the film room,” Brady was quoted as saying to ESPN in an interview back in September, just before the Buffs went on their massive losing streak.
