After Wisconsin Badgers fans had to sit through a 24-7 home loss to rival Minneosta on Saturday afternoon, Luke Fickell decided to make things even worse for himself during the post-game press conference. Considering the Badgers just finished a 5-7 season and will be missing a bowl for the first time in 22 years, his comments didn’t receive a positive reaction.

The Badgers are now 12-13 in two seasons under Coach Fickell’s leadership. This is a program that had become very accustomed to winning and making bowl games. And in two seasons he has taken that all away from the people in Madison. Yet, he still decided to say the following:

Coach Fickell very much should worry about the fans, because many of them want him fired. And the last thing he needs is for those voices to get louder and louder. And “obviously seeing is believing” is part of the problem, as the fans have seen plenty during the last 25 games and not much of that has brough optimism and joy.

Most assume that Coach Fickell will return in 2025, as do I, even though I’m not sure that he should considering the lack of direction he has brought to the program. A new offensive coordinator will be hired which might help, but right now most people will be in a “I’ll believe it when I see it” mentality when next seasons begins.

And that is a tough position for Wisconsin fans to be in this quickly after Coach Fickell’s hiring. Maybe if he paid more attention to the fans he would hear the noise and realize the position he and his program are in.
