Nothing is too surprising with college sports nowadays, so it seems almost normal that a current NFL All-Pro was announced as an Assistant General Manager at his former college this afternoon.

Maxx Crosby played at Eastern Michigan from 2015 to 2018, where he totaled 162 tackles, 42 tackles for loss and 20 sacks. Drafted in the 4th round of the 2019 NFL Draft by the Oakland Raiders, he has become one of the top defensive players in the league, which included All-Pro seasons in 2021 and 2023.

Now he has been added by Eastern Michigan to “scout the next generation” and “boost our NIL and recruiting game”. The Eagles also released the following statement:

“Crosby, the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history, will assist with evaluating high school and transfer portal prospects and help manage the team’s NIL/revenue share budget. He will also serve as a Special Assistant to the Athletic Director on fundraising, alumni relations, and student-athlete support.”

A move like this isn’t new, with Davidson having added Steph Curry as an Assistant GM and Andrew Luck taking over GM duties at Stanford. And it specially makes sense for non-P4 programs like Eastern Michigan and Davidson who are trying to find every advantage possible in this new collegiate sports world.
