BREAKING: Top QB Gets Crazy NIL Offer to Transfer

A top quarterback has been offered millions to transfer instead of entering the NFL Draft

Tampering is the word of the day in the world of college football, with almost daily stories emerging of schools trying to poach players that aren’t in the transfer portal. On New Year’s Eve, a crazy story emerged regarding one of the elite quarterbacks in the country being offered millions of dollars to transfer instead of entering this spring’s NFL Draft.

Pete Nakos of On3 reported that star Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers has received a $6M offer to transfer to an undisclosed school.

This is interesting timing considering the Longhorns are preparing for today’s quarterfinal playoff game against Arizona State. While likely not a distraction for the team, it is extra noise that nobody in the program needs to deal with today.

Nov 9, 2024; Austin, Texas, USA; Texas Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers (3) looks to throw a pass during the first half against the Florida Gators at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium.

The real drama will begin if Texas loses today. Would Quinn Ewers, who is considered a top five eligible quarterback in the NFL Draft, seriously consider such an offer? The quick answer is no. $6M is an impressive amount of money, but doesn’t equal his opportunity to start his NFL salary clock which could easily earn him ten times that amount rather quickly. There is no reason to slow that process down.

Ewers isn’t the only top quarterback to have a potential option like this. Only two months ago, Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders mentioned that he would be open to returning to Boulder for upwards of $10M. This story has already been forgotten because Sanders, who is considered a top five pick, had no serious intentions of returning.

Just as with the Sanders story, this story will be forgotten. What won’t be forgotten is that this is yet another example of blatant tampering. And to make it worse, it is another sign of blatant tampering that won’t change anything.
