It’s time for Dr. Farrell to give a checkup to the top 10 most valuable college football programs. This is a simple grading system as I label them either SICK or HEALTHY and give my reason why.

Data according to USA Today.

1. Ohio State

HEALTHY

— The Buckeyes athletics revenue in 2022 was tops in all of college football at $251 million and the football program is obviously in great shape from a recruiting standpoint and on the field with another playoff run. If a team from the north is going to win it all it’s going to be the Buckeyes.

2. Texas

HEALTHY

— Texas may not have it all together on the field yet but with $239 million in revenue entering the SEC soon and in the NIL era they will be just fine.

3. Alabama

HEALTHY

— What else can be said? $214 million and Nick Saban is as healthy as it gets, and one more national title is likely in the works before Saban moves on.

Nov 26, 2022; Tuscaloosa, Alabama, USA; Alabama Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban and linebacker Will Anderson Jr. (31) share a smile as they leave the field after defeating the Auburn Tigers at Bryant-Denny Stadium. Alabama won 49-27.

4. Michigan

HEALTHY

— $210 million and back-to-back playoff appearances is a nice way to be, and they are the favorite in the Big Ten this upcoming season.

Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh celebrates scoring a two-point conversion against Purdue during the second half of the Big Ten Championship game against Purdue at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Ind., on Saturday, Dec. 3, 2022.

5. Georgia

HEALTHY

— $203 million and back-to-back national titles makes Georgia the healthiest program in the country, and it’s not that close.

Jan 9, 2023; Inglewood, CA, USA; Georgia Bulldogs defensive back Javon Bullard (22) celebrates with head coach Kirby Smart after winning the CFP national championship game against the TCU Horned Frogs at SoFi Stadium.

6. LSU

HEALTHY

— $199 million with a national title as recently as 2019 and a very good year one for Brian Kelly. They should be natty contenders this year.

Nov 5, 2022; Baton Rouge, Louisiana, USA; LSU Tigers head coach Brian Kelly looks on against the Alabama Crimson Tide during the second half at Tiger Stadium.

7. Texas A&M

SICK

— $193 million, but so much invested in Jimbo Fisher and coming off a 5-7 season. The Aggies are a current disaster.

Oct 22, 2022; Columbia, South Carolina, USA; Texas A&M Aggies head coach Jimbo Fisher directs his team against the South Carolina Gamecocks in the second quarter at Williams-Brice Stadium.

8. Florida

SICK

— Jim McElwain and Dan Mullen run out of town, a nasty 2024 schedule, and Billy Napier soon to be on a very hot seat does not equal healthy, even with $190 million in 2022 revenue.

Sep 24, 2022; Knoxville, Tennessee, USA; Florida Gators head coach Billy Napier argues with an official during the second half against the Tennessee Volunteers at Neyland Stadium.

9. Penn State

HEALTHY

— James Franklin needs to break through and beat better teams, but at $181 million and with a loaded roster, they are in great shape moving forward. The only issue? They are third in the Big Ten in everything.

Sep 24, 2022; University Park, Pennsylvania, USA; Penn State Nittany Lions head coach James Franklin gestures from the sidelines during the fourth quarter against the Central Michigan Chippewas at Beaver Stadium. Penn State defeated Central Michigan 33-14.

10. Oklahoma

SICK

— Brent Venables had a rough year one and could be on a very hot seat after 2023 if things don’t go well. $177 million and off to the SEC in 2024 is good, but is he the guy?

Oklahoma football coach Brent Venables talks during a press conference in Norman, Okla., Thursday, Feb. 16, 2023.
