There is never a good time to have a player get arrested, but when it happens only a couple of weeks before the start of the season it adds even more salt to the wound. That is the situation in Knoxville, when wide receiver Chris Brazzell was arrested over the weekend.
Brazzell was arrested on Friday night in Knoxville after being pulled over for speed and driving with a suspended license, according to the Knoxville News Sentinel. He was pulled over by police for driving 60 mph in a 35 mph zone near campus.
The bigger issue arose when it was identified that his license was suspended. This occurred because he failed to appear in Court in Blount County, Tennessee last August. Brazzell’s newest Court date is scheduled for August 20th.
While this will likely turn out to be a legal slap on the wrist for Brazzell, a suspension of a game or two would magnify what has already become a difficult time for the Vols at the wide receiver position. Even Brazzell has dealt with an injury, which has kept him out of summer practices. With others also injured, any loss of playing time for Brazzell due to a possible suspension would be felt.
On the field, he totaled 29 receptions for 333 yards and two touchdowns last season after transferring in from Tulane. Brazzell’s production made him the top returning receiver for the Vols.
Tennessee opens the 2025 season against Syracuse on Aug. 30 in Atlanta before hosting East Tennessee State and then Georgia.
