WATCH: Dallas Would be Sacrificing Wins if They Hire Deion Sanders

Would Jerry Jones hire Deion Sanders just to get the spotlight? Colin Cowherd discussed the possibility earlier today

This afternoon, Colin Cowherd addressed the topic of Deion Sanders likely accepting the Dallas Cowboys job if he was offered the opportunity. He made several points regarding Coach Sanders’ time in Colorado and how that would translate to Dallas if he was hired:

Listening to Cowherd, you usually have to weed through the absurdity to find some substance, but this time he actually made a few valid points:

“Let’s just be honest about his college football experience,” Cowherd said. “He went 13–12 in two years with arguably the best college quarterback. And without an argument, the Heisman Trophy winner who played both sides of the ball. And in a bad conference—the Big 12. He wasn’t in the SEC. He wasn’t even in the Big Ten or the ACC. He’s in the Big 12 and he went 13–12 and he got blown out a lot.”

Coach Sanders did a very good job in 2024 after failing to meet most of his lofty expectations in 2023. Through it all, he was only 13-12 in two seasons, while having two of the best players in the country on his roster. That part is hard to argue. Yes, you need more than two players to win football games, but that was also Sanders’ job to improve the roster, which he did in 2024, but failed at miserably in 2023.

So why would an NFL team like Dallas hire Sanders? It wouldn’t be for his ability to win only 52% of his games at Colorado, so there is much more to it. As Cowherd said, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is always craving the spotlight, and no hire during this cycle would give him more of that than Sanders.

If anyone was wondering how important that spotlight is for Jones, they will likely find out very soon.
