The battle between the SEC and Big Ten continues to rage in every aspect of college football. One continuous source of turmoil between the two conferences revolves around recruiting. Yesterday, one of the top Class of 2026 defensive linemen in the country, Deuce Geralds, committed to the SEC over the Big Ten.
This was a very nice recruiting win for LSU, who had to fend off Ohio State, Oregon and Michigan in the final weeks to earn the commitment. He also considered Ole Miss before making his decision. Geralds, who plays his football at Collins Hill in Suwanee, Georgia, took official visits to each of the five schools in May and June. However, it was his first visit, which was to Baton Rouge, which proved to be the winner.
Geralds’ recruiting process exploded nationally after a junior season when he totaled 114 tackles, 30 tackles for loss and 13 sacks. At 6-foot-2 and 280-pounds, he then continued to dominate at the Polynesian Bowl in January when he finished with three sacks.
For LSU, this further solidifies an already extremely loaded defensive line class. Geralds joins a group that already consisted of five-star Lamar Brown (Baton Rouge, LA), four-star Richard Anderson (New Orleans, LA) and three-star Darryus McKinley (Lafayette, LA).
