Fact or Fiction: Alabama’s Offense, Colorado’s Future, Sam Hartman

In Mike Farrell’s Fact or Fiction, he determines if the Crimson Tide’s offensive struggles are something…

In today’s Fact or Fiction, I look at three big recent topics in college football and decide whether the statement is indeed FACT or if it’s FICTION.

1. Alabama’s offense is in trouble.

Farrell’s take: FICTION

The talk of the weekend was how bad the Alabama QBs look at the annual A Game as neither Jalen Milroe nor Ty Simpson completed 50% of their passes and combined for three picks. While it’s an uncertain position, unlike it has been for the past many seasons, Alabama will be fine on offense as new OC Tommy Rees wants to be run-heavy for the most part. That will mean Milroe will win the job and the offense will utilize his ability to run the ball. Yes, the passing efficiency is needed, but that will come in time as neither QB has a ton of experience. I’m not overly worried.

2. Colorado’s spring game is a sign of promise.

Farrell’s take: FACT

While the televised Spring Game was set up for the offense to shine and the Colorado defense could be really bad, the promise is this — the program has life. 45,000 at the Spring Game and an excitement around the program we haven’t seen for decades is bound to be a step in the right direction for recruiting and roster development. I still think this team will struggle to win five games next season, but the excitement is brewing, and that’s always good.

3. Sam Hartman won the Notre Dame QB job.

Farrell’s take: FACT

The talk of the job being open between the Wake Forest transfer and Tyler Buchner was a bit laughable, as I said last week. And with Hartman going 13-16 for 189 yards and two scores in the Spring Game, we know this is his job. Buchner struggled and all the talk of his advantage over Hartman having been in the system longer is just that — talk. Hartman is the man.

Notre Dame quarterback Sam Hartman (10) drops back to pass and is protected by offensive lineman Quinn Murphy (53) during the Notre Dame Blue-Gold Spring Football game on Saturday, April 22, 2023, at Notre Dame Stadium in South Bend.
