In today’s Fact or Fiction I look at three big recent topics in college football and decide whether the statement is indeed FACT or if it’s FICTION.

1. The biggest QB loss is Caleb Williams from USC.

Farrell’s take: FACT

Bo Nix has Dillon Gabriel replacing him, Grant Nussmeier is going to be good at LSU and despite lacking huge names, UNC, Michigan and Washington will be okay but I worry about USC. Miller Moss looked great in the bowl game but the Trojans are entering the Big Ten and defense is going to be much for prevalent. The drop from Williams to Moss could be huge.

2. Notre Dame has a playoff caliber roster.

Farrell’s take: FACT

Can Notre Dame make the playoff? Yep. They have lost some key players but overall I think the defense and a new offense under Mike Dembrock is enough to win 10 games and make the dance. Dembrock will be very aggressive in his play calling and the schedule isn’t horrible. Florida State is tough, USC is always a good game but beyond that who else is there? Texas A&M? Louisville? Maybe they will be okay teams and Louisville could be a surprise again, but this schedule is cake to win 10.

3. Colorado can win the Big 12.

Farrell’s take: FICTION

Deion fans are hopeful they can go from 4-8 to Big 12 champs as they move conferences but I’m not sold. Kansas State is going to be good, Arizona has talent and don’t sleep on Kansas at all. The league isn’t as strong as the PAC 12 was last year and with Texas and Oklahoma gone, the Big 12 lacks star power but this Colorado team may go 7-5 or 8-4 if they have a good season but it won’t be enough.

Oct 7, 2023; Tempe, Arizona, USA; Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders celebrates with his kicker Alejandro Mata (16) after his last-minute field goal to win 27-24 over the ASU Sun Devils at Mountain America Stadium.
