In today’s Fact or Fiction, I look at three big recent topics in college football and decide whether the statement is indeed FACT or if it’s FICTION.
1. Caleb Williams is a generational talent.
Farrell’s take: FICTION
I’m sick of hearing this kind of stuff. Everyone loves to say such and such is a generational talent, and it started to irk me with the defensive ends from either Bosa brother to Chase Young to Myles Garrett and so on out of college. Now we have people saying Williams is a generational talent. Is a generation like 3-5 years? What about Trevor Lawrence or Joe Burrow or Bryce Young? Williams is a talented kid, but every new great player can’t be generational. So, over the last 20 years or so, is Williams the best NFL Draft QB we’ve seen? Nope. Give me Lawrence and then Burrow, and then we can talk about Williams or someone else. And if we’re simply talking about QBs overall, it’s Patrick Mahomes who takes the torch from generational QB Tom Brady.

2. Michigan is the best team in the country.
Farrell’s take: FACT
This isn’t because they destroyed Indiana. And this isn’t because Georgia struggled against Vanderbilt and doesn’t discount how good Washington and Florida State looked. It’s just based on a lack of weakness at any key spot. Michigan is the most balanced team in the country and can beat you with the run game, passing the ball, and purely with defense, which is something none of the above teams can do consistently. Jim Harbaugh’s team is the team to beat moving forward, in my opinion.

3. It’s been a bad time for former and current Oregon coaches.
Farrell’s take: FACT
Mario Cristobal made the biggest college football coaching blunder in history, Dan Lanning tried multiple fourth down conversions and had that backfire in a loss to Washington, and Chip Kelly and his team got trounced by Oregon State. What’s going on here? I see head coaches making millions and also making just head-scratching decisions and either game planning or managing games improperly. And the last week or so, it’s been a Ducks theme. At least Mark Helfrich just went to the TV booth.
