Fact or Fiction: Caleb Williams’ USC Tenure, Colorado’s Schedule, Napier on the Hot Seat

Mike Farrell determines if the Hesiman-winning quarterback should have stayed at Oklahoma, if Deion Sanders’ Buffaloes…

In today’s Fact or Fiction, I look at three big recent topics in college football and decide whether the statement is indeed FACT or if it’s FICTION.

1. Caleb Williams should have never left Oklahoma.

Farrell’s take: FACT

Think about it. He followed Lincoln Riley to USC, and the man let him down. Williams looked at Georgia and some others, but he was always going to LA with Riley more for the offense and NIL than to win big. Had he stayed he would have a defensive-minded coach this season, I feel strongly OU would be undefeated with him. Last year would have been rough and he probably wouldn’t have won the Heisman but this year would have been a dream season with little to no crying.

2. Colorado won’t win another game.

Farrell’s take: FACT

It’s over. The TCU win was unexpected, and Nebraska and Colorado State stink while Arizona State has been banged up all year. But four wins is more than I expected, so kudos to Deion, but this is over. Arizona is playing very well, Washington State is tough at home, and Utah will demolish CU at home. Colorado has remained competitive recently with some good teams like Oregon State and UCLA, but I don’t see another win here, and a 4-8 season will be the result. And I’m not sure how well Deion will handle it based on recent comments and coaching moves.

3. Billy Napier doesn’t survive the 2024 season.

Farrell’s take: FACT

I said this at the beginning of the season when the schedule came out, and I’ll say it again: he has no chance. That 2024 schedule is ridiculous, with Georgia, Kentucky, LSU, Ole Miss, Tennessee, and Texas, as well as out-of-conference games against Miami, UCF, and Florida State. The Gators are likely to finish 5-7 this season, so the heat will be on in a big way, and even with a great recruiting class, he won’t be able to overcome that 2024 slate.
