Fact or Fiction: FSU Bowl Boycott, Collin Klein to TAMU, Brian Kelly

Mike Farrell on whether the Seminoles should boycott the Orange Bowl, if Collin Klein made a lateral move by going to Texas A&M…

In today’s Fact or Fiction, I look at three big recent topics in college football and decide whether the statement is indeed FACT or if it’s FICTION.

1. Florida State should boycott the Orange Bowl.

Farrell’s take: FACT

Why not? Yes, the players deserve a bowl game and to finish the season, but college football has clearly forgotten the players in all of this, and why should anyone make a cent off the Seminoles being relegated to an exhibition game against UGA instead of the college football playoff? They got screwed, and they should screw the NCAA and committee back by saying no thanks and watch them lose millions.

Dec 2, 2023; Charlotte, NC, USA; Florida State Seminoles running back Trey Benson (3) runs the ball against the Louisville Cardinals during the fourth quarter at Bank of America Stadium.

2. Collin Klein is making a lateral move.

Farrell’s take: FICTION

People love to make fun of Texas A&M as a mid program, and so do I, since they’ve never really won anything. But for a coach like Klein, it’s a move up as the OC of the Aggies over Kansas State, where he was a star. Why? Recruiting territory, NIL, talent, and the like. He can work with better players against better players in the SEC and has more resources. Some like to call this a lateral move, but they are wrong.

Sep 3, 2022; Manhattan, Kansas, USA; Kansas State Wildcats offensive coordinator Collin Klein watches the team warm up before the start of a game against the South Dakota Coyotes at Bill Snyder Family Football Stadium.

3. Brian Kelly is right.

Farrell’s take: FACT

Kelly’s LSU team played Florida State and Alabama this season, so listening to what he has to say about the snub of the Seminoles is interesting. And he’s right…

Kelly’s main point is that the FSU team that beat LSU with Jordan Travis at QB is different than the one we saw against Florida and Louisville and he’s absolutely correct. Does it make it right? Nope. But this is the point he makes as to why Alabama is more deserving of the college football playoff, and you have to respect it. Kelly oddly said there are five Power Five conferences for four spots, ignoring he got there as an independent at Notre Dame, but hey, that’s okay.
