In today’s Fact or Fiction, I look at three big recent topics in college football and decide whether the statement is indeed FACT or if it’s FICTION.
1. National title talk from Michael Penix Jr. is pointless.
Farrell’s take: FICTION
I love what Penix Jr. is saying. I don’t think Washington will win the national title or even the Pac-12 but Penix Jr. and others returned to Washington to go as far as they can after winning 7 of their last 8 last season. A Pac-12 title game is certainly possible, and with that, anything can happen. Again, I don’t see winning it all but Penix Jr. speaking of that goal is exactly what I’d want.

2. Arkansas gets to nine regular season wins next year.
Farrell’s take: FACT
It won’t be easy, but I think it can be done. They should start 3-0, and if you assume losses at LSU and at Alabama, it comes down to these games — on the road at Ole Miss, at Florida, and at home against Mississippi State. I know upsets can happen and this team lost to Texas A&M and Missouri last year, but both are at home and should be wins. It’s an important year for Sam Pittman and company, but with KJ Jefferson and Rocket Sanders back they have the star power.

3. Texas has the best WR trio in the country.
Farrell’s take: FICTION
It’s a great group, as Xavier Worthy is obviously elite, transfer AD Mitchell has a chance to be a freak if he stays healthy, and freshman Johntay Cook is going to be very special. The Spring Game excitement and all is fun, but Ohio State exists. Marvin Harrison Jr., Emeka Egbuka, and Julian Fleming are a ridiculous trio, and it’s not even close for No. 1. I’d put Texas in the top five but not No. 1.
