Fact or Fiction: Michigan has their QB, PAC 12 is pathetic and Sooners offense will rise up

In today’s Fact or Fiction, I take a look at Michigan’s QB situation, the PAC-12 and Oklahoma’s offense

In today’s Fact or Fiction I look at three big recent topics in college football and decide whether the statement is indeed FACT or if it’s FICTION.

1. Michigan has found the answer at QB.

Farrell’s take: FICTION

Alex Orji isn’t it. Michigan beat USC with power football because the Trojans stink in the trenches but if they expect to beat more physical teams with a new OL and Orji’s inability to pass they are crazy. The box will be loaded and they won’t be able to do what they did last year to Penn State or this year to USC. The threat of a passing game is needed and Michigan had that last year against PSU and teams like Oregon, Illinois and Ohio State won’t simply be pushed around like USC.

2. PAC 12 expansion is sad.

Farrell’s take: FACT

No offense to some of the teams they are attracting as many are solid programs, but this look by the PAC 12 is a poor one. They are randomly targeting teams, trying desperately to reach the team minimum for an AQ and won’t have a prayer in hell of earning qualifying status in the playoff. And it’s sad because their lack of foresight led to the dismantling of a once proud conference and college football was better off with a Power Five instead of a Power Four. Now it’s just become pathetic to watch.

3.Michael Hawkins Jr. is the OU answer at QB.

Farrell’s take: FICTION

Michael Hawkins Jr. is a solid QB don’t get me wrong. And Jackson Arnold has been a massive disappointment as a 5 star HS prospect who has regressed and is turning the ball over. But the OU offense will struggle with Hawkins Jr. against elite teams as well. He’s young, he’s not very big and he has a huge heart which means he will try to do things he shouldn’t. If that OL can’t hold up or if he tries to lower his head and run too much, it could be a disaster.

Sep 21, 2024; Norman, Oklahoma, USA; Oklahoma Sooners quarterback Michael Hawkins Jr. (9) runs past Tennessee Volunteers defensive lineman Tyre West (42) during the second half at Gaylord Family-Oklahoma Memorial Stadium.
