In today’s Fact or Fiction, I look at three big recent topics in college football and decide whether the statement is indeed FACT or if it’s FICTION.
1. Arch Manning opting out of EA Sports College Football is overplayed.
Farrell’s take: FACT
Who cares? Well, I do, I’ll admit. And we are going to write many articles about this. Why? His last name is Manning, and he’s overhyped. But do we really care if he’s in a video game when he was third-string last year and will be a backup this season? It’s not a big deal. The smart move would have been to opt in quietly and avoid all this garbage.

2. Neal Brown’s extension was necessary.
Farrell’s take: FICTION
The day and age of walking into living rooms with four years left on your contract is over. So extending Brown to 2027 after a solid season means nothing and will look dumb in the end when WVU struggles this season and decides to move on from him. I know 2027 isn’t a long-term extension, nor does it give him those four years to sell, but it just doesn’t make sense. Make it a long, dumb extension, or leave it be.

3. The Clemson-UGA game matters in the playoff picture.
Farrell’s take: FICTION
What a game to start the season. August 31 Clemson VS UGA is nice for college football fans as the Dawgs are pissed at falling short, and Clemson is pissed they aren’t considered a threat anymore. But this game actually enhances the chances of both teams for the playoff and doesn’t hurt them. An early season loss to a good team is seemingly an advantage these days in an expanded playoff, and the winner will obviously be on track to a big season, but the loser won’t be hurt. Not unless it’s a massive blowout.
