Fact or Fiction: Next Tide OC, Washington Disrespect, Biggest Threat to Georgia

In Mike Farrell’s Fact or Fiction, he analyzes whether Nick Saban should turn to the NFL for his next OC…

In today’s Fact or Fiction, I look at three big recent topics in college football and decide whether the statement is indeed FACT or if it’s FICTION.

1. Nick Saban should turn to the NFL for his new OC.

Farrell’s take: FICTION

While the bigger names being mentioned are from NFL circles — guys like Kliff Kingsbury, Nick Caley, and Greg Roman, I think Saban needs someone who understands the current landscape of college football. The transfer portal and NIL have just become out of hand and impact a roster so greatly that guys without recent experience in that area could get lost. Give me a Jeff Lebby from Oklahoma or maybe even a promotion from within for TE coach Joe Cox.

2. I’m not showing enough respect to the Washington Huskies.

Farrell’s take: FACT

I keep doing it and I don’t even realize it. I stated how important it was for Oregon to have Bo Nix back while glossing over Michael Penix Jr. and his return to Washington. Then I recently stated Utah would be the team to take the next step in the PAC 12. I didn’t dismiss Washington at all but again I didn’t consider them as much as I should with so many returning players and a dangerous offense. The Huskies thrive off of disrespect and I apparently keep providing fodder without even realizing it.

Nov 19, 2022; Seattle, Washington, USA; Washington Huskies quarterback Michael Penix Jr. (9) passes against the Colorado Buffaloes during the first quarter at Alaska Airlines Field at Husky Stadium.

3. Michigan is the biggest threat to UGA’s three-peat next season.

Farrell’s take: FACT

This isn’t the popular opinion and honestly I could change my mind but I really like this Michigan team next season. JJ McCarthy returns with the loaded backfield of Blake Corum and Donovan Edwards while the offensive line could be better than ever. The defense isn’t losing a ton either. Ohio State could be the favorite in the Big Ten next year as always and everyone is looking for an Alabama run but watch out for Michigan.

Nov 26, 2022; Columbus, Ohio, USA; Michigan Wolverines head coach Jim Harbaugh hugs Michigan Wolverines quarterback J.J. McCarthy (9) following their 45-23 win over the Ohio State Buckeyes in the NCAA football game at Ohio Stadium.
