Fact or Fiction: Preseason Favorite, FSU’s Final Ranking, Arizona on the Rise

Who should be the favorite heading into next season, if the Seminoles got screwed by the final AP rankings…

In today’s Fact or Fiction, I look at three big recent topics in college football and decide whether the statement is indeed FACT or if it’s FICTION.

1. UGA is next year’s pre-season favorite.

Farrell’s take: FACT

They are to me at least, followed by teams like Alabama, Texas, and Michigan. With Carson Beck back at QB and the roster talent, this UGA team could easily make an argument as the best in 2024, and some think they would have beaten Michigan this year had they gotten in as a four seed. Kirby Smart has the team to beat.

Georgia coach Kirby Smart argues a call with the ref during the second half of the SEC Championship game against Alabama at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, on Saturday, Dec. 2, 2023. Alabama won 27-24.

2. FSU should have finished higher than No. 6.

Farrell’s take: FICTION

Nope. Sorry, FSU fans. I felt you guys got screwed by the college football selection committee and all, but the way you responded doesn’t land you anywhere near No. 6. You lost 63-3 to Georgia, and you can talk about a walkout or boycott or whatever you want, but that turned a winning season into a losing one. I’d have them behind these teams — Michigan, Washington, Alabama, Texas, Georgia, Oregon, Missouri, and Ole Miss and check in at No. 9 ahead of Ohio State and some others.

3. Arizona could be next year’s Washington.

Farrell’s take: FACT

It could happen. Arizona went 10-3 this season and are on an upward trajectory and things could get easier moving to a Big 12 without Texas or Oklahoma. Jedd Fisch is an amazing coach and could have a stellar season that lands him in the playoff and perhaps title game and also at Florida, where he can succeed Billy Napier.
