Fact or Fiction: Stalions’ Resignation, Jimbo’s Future, Riley’s Ego

In today’s Fact or Fiction, I look at three big recent topics in college football and decide whether the statement is indeed FACT or if it’s FICTION.

1. Connor Stalions’ resignation takes Michigan off the hook.

Farrell’s take: FICTION

We know there’s more to the story and this isn’t the end of it. Whether we see something happen quickly or it gets drawn out is the only question remaining here as Jim Harbaugh will either serve a suspension, be fired, or move on to the NFL. But something is coming down the pipe and the “resignation” of Stalions was simply a formality and a pound of flesh thrown to minimize any damage.

2. It’s time for Jimbo Fisher to be bought out.

Farrell’s take: FACT

We’ve seen enough right? He’s 5-4 in season six of this dumb contract and things aren’t improving. He’s lost every road game dating back to 2021 and had one good season when COVID hit. Recruiting has been solid and it hasn’t mattered much and now he will end the season most likely 7-5 following 5-7 last season. That’s horrible for the amount of money he’s making and it’s time for the boosters to pony up and get him out.

Nov 4, 2023; Oxford, Mississippi, USA; Texas A&M Aggies head coach Jimbo Fisher reacts during the first half against the Mississippi Rebels at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.

3. Lincoln Riley’s stubbornness has wasted Caleb Williams.

Farrell’s take: FACT

When watching the USC-Washington game I kept having this thought — poor Caleb Williams. As he performed magic over and over again on offense, the USC defense gave up chunk play after chunk play and couldn’t stop the run as usual. Williams simply couldn’t score on every possession and keep up. And it’s Lincoln Riley’s fault, as he has defended DC Alex Grinch over and over and kept him employed when it’s clear that’s the wrong decision. This USC team deserves better and Williams will not make the playoff simply because Riley is stubborn. It’s a shame.

Nov 4, 2023; Los Angeles, California, USA; USC Trojans quarterback Caleb Williams (13) interacts with Washington Huskies safety Mishael Powell (3) after Caleb Williams (13) scores a touchdown during the first quarter against the Washington Huskies at United Airlines Field at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.
