In today’s Fact or Fiction, I look at three big recent topics in college football and decide whether the statement is indeed FACT or if it’s FICTION.

1. Texas has a legit QB competition.

Farrell’s take: FICTION

Steve Sarkisian says there is an open QB competition between Quinn Ewers and Arch Manning for the starting job but don’t be fooled. This is Ewers’ job, and Manning will compete and push and then likely redshirt per his family’s wishes. If Manning did win the job, Ewers would transfer again, and Sark doesn’t want that. The hope is that Ewers steps up his game, Manning sees limited playing time to preserve a redshirt, and Maalik Murphy is the emergency stopgap if Ewers goes down.

Oct 8, 2022; Dallas, Texas, USA; Texas Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers (3) throws during the first half against the Oklahoma Sooners at the Cotton Bowl.

2. Donovan Edwards is next year’s Bijan Robinson.

Farrell’s take: FACT

Seems odd right? Blake Corum is back, after all. But Edwards’ skill set reminds me of Robinson more than anyone next season, and I think he breaks out as the more dynamic of the two. It sounds crazy, but Corum is coming off injury and Edwards is already the more explosive back and needs to be used in the passing game more. He could have a monster year.

Oct 15, 2022; Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA; Michigan Wolverines running back Donovan Edwards (7) rushes in the second half against the Penn State Nittany Lions at Michigan Stadium.

3. Jake Garcia starts for Missouri.

Farrell’s take: FACT

He better be. After all, he’s the only healthy QB for Mizzou this spring as Brady Cook recovers from labrum surgery and Sam Horn hurt himself pitching. Horn will throw at some point this spring, but the Miami transfer and former 4-star is heading into an excellent situation. Garcia was more down than up at Miami and needs a lot of work, but Eli Drinkwitz could be the guy to pull talent out of him.

Nov 26, 2022; Miami Gardens, Florida, USA; Miami Hurricanes quarterback Jake Garcia (13) attempts a pass against the Pittsburgh Panthers during the second half at Hard Rock Stadium.
