Fact or Fiction: Tide, ‘Pokes, and a Wolverines’ Win?

In Mike Farrell’s Fact or Fiction, he looks at whether Alabama will be upset at Tennessee, if Oklahoma State is the best…

In today’s Fact or Fiction, I look at three big recent topics in college football and decide whether the statement is indeed FACT or if it’s FICTION.

1. The Vols beat Alabama this weekend

Farrell’s Take: Fiction

Bryce Young probably won’t play and if he does he’ll be limited but I don’t care. Why? This is Alabama. This is Nick Saban. Saban has a way of willing his teams to win and this defense has something to prove against a loaded Tennessee offense. Will Anderson and company will make Hendon Hooker uncomfortable, the Alabama offense will control the football and keep the Vols offense off the field for long periods of time and Jalen Milroe will do enough with his feet to win a close game 34-24.

Sep 24, 2022; Knoxville, Tennessee, USA; Tennessee Volunteers quarterback Hendon Hooker (5) passes the ball against the Florida Gators during the first quarter at Neyland Stadium.

2. Oklahoma State proves they are the class of the Big 12.

Farrell’s take: FACT

I love what Max Duggan is doing for TCU and how the Sonny Dykes offense is lighting up the world but a letdown game is due for the Frogs. With revenge on their minds from a 63-17 loss last year and coming off a huge road win at Kansas you’d think all would be in favor of TCU, but Mike Gundy is the best coach in the Big 12 and Spencer Sanders is more focused than ever. The Pokes win a shootout 44-37.

Oct 1, 2022; Waco, Texas, USA; Oklahoma State Cowboys quarterback Spencer Sanders (3) runs for a first down against the Baylor Bears during the first quarter at McLane Stadium.

3. Penn State upsets Michigan.

Farrell’s take: FICTION

The Michigan offense doesn’t impress me and they are ripe for an upset but Penn State will fall flat on the road. Why? I don’t believe in Sean Clifford to be the guy who can put up enough points for the win. I like the PSU running game and all and the defense has been solid under Manny Diaz but in a grind-it-out and physical game, give me Michigan 24-20.

Sep 17, 2022; Auburn, Alabama, USA; Penn State Nittany Lions running back Nicholas Singleton (10) celebrates with offensive lineman Olumuyiwa Fashanu (74) after scoring a touchdown against the Auburn Tigers during the third quarter at Jordan-Hare Stadium.
