In today’s Fact or Fiction, I look at three big recent topics in college football and decide whether the statement is indeed FACT or if it’s FICTION.
1. The Vols are the biggest threat to Georgia in the SEC next season.
Farrell’s take: FICTION
The Vols are going to be good even with Hendon Hooker, Jalin Hyatt, and others gone. The defense will be better and the offense should be as dangerous as ever even with questions about Joe Milton. But while their schedule is a bit easier than Alabama and LSU, those are the two real threats. And I know this isn’t a surprise to many but let’s remember Tennessee beat Alabama last season and was the biggest threat to UGA all season. But this year they get leapfrogged a bit.

2. Deion could be over his head.
Farrell’s take: FACT
The more I hear Deion speak the more I worry he’s bit off more than he can chew at Colorado. Now I don’t mind Deion talking, that’s his job as head coach. And he’s not going to temper expectations as that’s not who he is. And he should talk about Colorado and use his fame as it’s what he’s paid for. But he’s talking about changing things immediately and how this isn’t a long rebuild. This is a horrible football team and a program that has had a winning season twice since 2005. This is kind of like taking over Rutgers or Kansas or Vanderbilt. And the more I listen the more I worry that he doesn’t have an idea of how tough this could be.

3. Dave Doeren deserves more.
Farrell’s take: FACT
Doeren gets a one-year extension to 2027 and stays at $5 million. He’s 72-55 at NC State and is the second longest-tenured coach in the ACC after Dabo Swinney. He’s had six seasons of 8 wins or more. By comparison, FSU head coach Mike Norvell is 18-16 coming off a 10-win season after two losing years to start his FSU career. He was extended to 2029 and makes around $8 million a year now. Doeren deserves better.
