Fact or Fiction: Venables Handling Pressure, Deion Responds to Critics, Saban’s Legacy

In Mike Farrell’s Fact or Fiction, he rates how well Brent Venables is handling criticism, how Coach Prime…

Oklahoma HC Brent Venables.

In today’s Fact or Fiction, I look at three big recent topics in college football and decide whether the statement is indeed FACT or if it’s FICTION.

1. Brent Venables is feeling the pressure and deflecting poorly.

Farrell’s take: FACT

First, the OU coach took a shot at Mario Cristobal at Miami comparing 6-7 seasons and claiming at least his team didn’t lose to Middle Tennessee State and so on. And while he didn’t name Miami directly, it was obvious he was calling them out for some unknown reason. Next up? Deion Sanders at Colorado, as Venables said at least he gave his players a year to prove themselves rather than purge his roster like Sanders did. Venables isn’t handling the pressure of the worst season at OU in decades and he’s randomly sniping at others as a result. It’s clear the pressure is getting to him and it’s not a great look.

2. Deion Sanders response was perfect.

Farrell’s take: FACT

A fake quote from Sanders about Venables’ random attack on how he’s purged his roster through the portal made the rounds with a reference to Venables being handed the keys to a Ferrari. But it was just that — fake. Instead, Sanders took the high road and said on Twitter,

Sanders loves to run his mouth at times, but he played this one correctly. Maybe he’s realizing what a disaster this season could be?

3. Nick Saban’s legacy is on the line.

Farrell’s take: FICTION

Paul Finebaum referenced this, and it’s dumb. He said something to the extent that if Nick Saban and Alabama miss the playoff again this season, his legacy could be in question. It’s arguably one of the dumbest things I’ve ever heard. As if we have to worry about a coach who’s won seven national titles and six with Alabama? I think his legacy is secure, Paul. C’mon man.
