Unfortunately, it isn’t abnormal for a few players to get arrested during the off-season, but when an athletic director gets arrested it will get more attention

During the off-season it isn’t uncommon to hear about a player getting arrested. It happens. But when a school’s athletic director gets arrested, that will raise a few more eyebrows. That was the reaction yesterday when Florida A&M AD Angela Suggs was arrested.

Suggs, who was hired in September, is alleged to have used a corporate credit card for personal expenses totaling more than $24,000 while serving as CEO at her previous job, the Florida Sports Foundation. She herself in at the Leon County Jail and was released on a $13,500 bond.

The charges facing Suggs are plentiful. She faces two felony charges, one for grand theft and the other for scheme to defraud, along with four misdemeanor counts of submitting false claims on travel vouchers.

Florida A&M interim president Timothy Beard released the following statement after the arrest.

“While the matter is unrelated to her duties as an employee at FAMU, we are monitoring the situation and will respond in the future as appropriate.”

The Best Way to End the Scheduling Debate

This is an ongoing story, but considering Suggs is only nine months into her role as athletic director at Florida A&M, it is difficult to envision her remaining with the Rattlers for too much longer.
