Different coaches have different philosophies when it comes to the amount of media coverage they allow during spring practice. Florida State head coach Mike Norvell’s practices had always been very open during previous seasons, but that abruptly ended this morning:
We were just informed that Florida State’s spring practice will be closed to the media save one scrimmage.
Ahead of his yearly spring presser, head coach Mike Norvell released this statement in regards to the decision.

This news came as a surprise to many, especially the media members that have long covered the Seminoles in Tallahassee. Coach Norvell’s reasoning seems to come down to this part of his statement:
“In a day and age where so many people have access to our players, I want to create an atmosphere free of outside perspectives during our time of preparation and development.”
Would the policy have changed if the Seminoles weren’t coming off a disastrous 2-10 season? Unlikely, but that isn’t the reality of the situation. There is plenty of pressure around the program to rebound in 2025 and it seems to be Coach Norvell’s belief that extra “outside noise” won’t help those chances.

Most fans will likely be disappointed with the lack of information being made available this spring, but they will quickly forgive-and-forget as long as the Seminoles produce a better season in 2025.
