In an exciting new feature on the site I take a dive into whether a situation is FOR REAL or FOOLS GOLD. You’ll figure it out.
Ole Miss’ running success.
FOR REAL
Lane Kiffin is known for an inventive passing offense but last season with poor QB play he reverted to a strong rushing attack. Quinshon Judkins rushed for nearly 1,600 yards, Zach Evans had nearly 1,000 and QB Jaxson Dart was third on the team in rushing with more than 600. And you’ll see more of that to come. While Evans is gone, Judkins is back, and the offense could be a bit more balanced if Dart or Spencer Sanders takes a step forward, but this was no fluke. Kiffin can win either way if you remember as he led the Derrick Henry Alabama offense.

TCU’s amazing season
FOOLS GOLD
It was an amazing season, and Sonny Dykes had a great debut season, arguably the best ever for a new head coach. But the Big 12 is deep and balanced, and teams like Texas and Oklahoma hope to leave the conference with a title. But more likely it will be a team like Texas Tech, Baylor, or Oklahoma State that takes a step forward this season to provide more parity in the league, and TCU is handed 3 or 4 losses a season removed from their magical run.

Spencer Rattler’s late-season success.
FOOLS GOLD
Hopes are high in Columbia, and there are more weapons for Rattler, but when you look at his strong finish, there are questions. His two biggest games were against Vanderbilt and Tennessee, two teams with bad defenses. He had some very good moments against Clemson and Notre Dame but also threw three picks over those games and struggled against Florida in November. And the schedule should be tougher as Texas A&M will be better, Mississippi State is a tough inter-divisional game, and UNC and Clemson are tough out-of-conference games.
