Since filing a lawsuit against LSU last August, former safety Gregory Brooks Jr. has not spoken about his story and what led to this decision. This all changed yesterday when he spoke with Good Morning America. You can watch the full interview here:

It is Brooks’ belief that LSU mismanaged and misdiagnosed his medical situation.

“I just want young athletes in the same spot I was, if something is hurting, tell them,” Brooks Jr. said in an interview with “And if they don’t do anything about it, go get your second opinion. Because if I would have known that, I wouldn’t be the way I am right now.”

Brooks claims that he began experiencing dizziness, headaches and nausea during summer camp in 2023, but was told that it was vertigo and was cleared to continue practicing. 39 days after his initial complaints, an appointment was made with a neurologist which led to the finding of a brain tumor. The brain surgery that followed resulted in Brooks Jr. suffering multiple strokes and suffering severe and permanent injuries, according to his lawsuit.

Brooks’ father, Gregory Brooks Sr., also shared his thoughts on the situation.

“He’s at LSU, one of the best colleges in the United States. Would I have ever thought that his best interests wouldn’t be at heart? No,” he said.

Also brought up was that the Brooks family has not heard from the LSU coaching staff since a few days after his brain tumor diagnosis. This includes the head coach.

“Specifically, Brian Kelly,” Brooks Sr. “My son almost lost his life. Coach, where were you? Forget about football. Pick up the phone and say you love the kid, man.”

Since the surgery, Brooks Jr. has undergone chemotherapy and radiation, and is now cancer-free. He undergoes speech and occupational therapy daily as he continues to deal with the effects of his tumor and surgery.
