I have never written one of these for Wake Forest, that should be some testament to the longevity of Dave Clawson. Clawson was here for 11 seasons and amassed a 67-69 record. Considering what he inherited, that was decent, and his 11-win season in 2021 was one of the better coaching jobs in recent memory. The Claw-fense used the slow mesh to make up for a lack of talent and did a fine job at it. His overall record won’t show it, but he will not be easy to replace for the Demon Deacons.

Thank You, @CoachClawson!

Jake Dickert

Washington State, Head Coach

Jake Dickert is sitting at 8-4 in year four with Wazzu, with a bowl game against Syracuse coming up. John Mateer has already announced he’s entering the portal, and could they reunite at a P4 school? Dickert should be on the radar of P4 teams with openings. His teams have played well over his tenure, though his 23-20 record isn’t attention-grabbing. The stability of a P4 conference could be appealing to him, and his energetic attitude, defensive prowess, and success in building against the odds could be appealing to schools.

"There are no rules."

When you lose your starting QB and 20+ players to the transfer portal, plus half your coaching staff… you have to wonder: at what point should we stop playing by the rules?

Jake Dickert says 'tampering' is inevitable.

Bob Chesney

James Madison, Head Coach

Bob Chesney led Holy Cross to four consecutive playoff appearances before moving to JMU this season. He held a 44-21 record at Holy Cross and was 8-4 this year with the Dukes. His head coaching stops also include Assumption and Salve Regina. He had been mentioned as a P4 candidate for other jobs on the East Coast. A coach who is well respected and well-thought-of, his time in the P4 will come soon.

"He was as calm, exciting, and having as much fun as you possibly can at the same time."

Brad White

Kentucky, Defensive Coordinator

Former player and alumnus here, White has been with Mark Stoops at Kentucky since 2018 and was with the Indianapolis Colts for a number of years before that. He played for Jim Grobe here, who also gave him his first coaching job. White has been a solid defensive coach and recruiter for the Wildcats. If he wants this to be his first heading job, he’ll firmly be in the mix.

Neal Brown

Former West Virginia, Head Coach

Neal Brown was firmly on the hot seat in 2023 and won 9 games, but this year winning 6 couldn’t save him. Recently fired, Brown was mentioned for Appalachian State and Charlotte. This is one of the more stable ACC jobs, they’ve had only three coaches over 31 seasons. I think he’d be a solid, if not spectacular hire in the modern transfer portal era, stability is what succeeds at the lower budget schools. He was a good coach at Troy before moving to Morgantown. We don’t know if he wants some time off or not. His name has been mentioned by several for this gig.

Glenn Schumann

Georgia, Defensive Coordinator

Another coach from the Saban/Smart tree, Schumann was a student assistant and graduate assistant for the Tide before going to UGA with Kirby Smart. Schumann has won six national titles as an assistant, four with the Tide and the last two with Georgia. Schumann has continually climbed the ladder and looks to get the chance to be a head coach sometime soon. He has been mentioned as an option for a few other jobs. He will be able to skip the G5 and take a P4 head job. He is a coach who is in a great place now and can be selective about the job he takes.

This was one of your dreams from the first time we talked and YOU made it come true… and I’m so thankful you allowed me to be a part of this journey @JalonWlaker ❤️❤️❤️ pic.twitter.com/nypR41NTKl
