Last week we had the first edition of the College Football Playoff
rankings for the season, and there weren’t many surprises if any at
all. After yesterday’s slate of games though, we have a few changes
to be made. Here are my top five teams after week 10.

1. Georgia

The College Football Playoff committee had Ohio State as
their number one team coming into this week, but I always had
Georgia in the top spot. Ohio State may have had better wins on
paper, but a simple eye test will tell you that Georgia is by far the
better team. They have been dominant all season for the most part as they are well on
their way to being undefeated for the third straight season.

Georgia Bulldogs linebacker Jalon Walker (11) reacts with linebacker Smael Mondon Jr. (2).

2. Michigan

The Wolverines kept up their winning ways blowing out
Purdue with a final score of 41-13. They have been steady all season
long led by star quarterback J.J. McCarthy. While his play is being
overshadowed by the “sign stealing” scandal, the team seems to still
be very much focused. Although that may be true, they have a huge
test next week going on the road to face Penn State.

Nov 4, 2023; Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA; Michigan Wolverines quarterback J.J. McCarthy (9) looks to pass in the first half against the Purdue Boilermakers at Michigan Stadium.

3. Washington

I had Washington ranked fourth last week, but their
performance from yesterday against USC put them even higher this
week. Going against the reigning Heisman trophy winner Caleb
Williams
, they showed up and showed out. They quite literally had
Williams in tears after the game. The defense will have to be a little
better, but as long as that offense is humming led by Michael Penix
Jr
, they should be fine.

4. Oregon

Oregon made a huge statement this weekend as they easily
ran through the California Bears. Even with a loss, which came from
Washington, they have shown they deserve to be a top-five team and
certainly not five. Bo Nix has been on fire all year long while the
defense has been stingy and opportunistic. All signs point to
Washington and Oregon meeting again in the PAC-12
championship, in which the winner will undoubtedly be in the top
four when it’s said and done. Maybe even both.

5. Ohio State

Ohio State was ranked number one coming into this week,
but I never had them that high for a couple of reasons. This weekend
certainly showed why as they struggled with a Rutgers team, which
is better than most years, but it’s still Rutgers. As the number one
team you are supposed to dominate, and that just didn’t happen.
While they did turn it on a little and pull it out, I just don’t have
much confidence that they can win a Championship. Kyle McCord
will have to do more along with the defense being more consistent.
They have Michigan State coming into town next week.

Ohio State Buckeyes quarterback Kyle McCord (6), offensive coordinator Brian Hartline, and wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. (18) sing Carmen Ohio.
