College programs didn’t have general managers a couple of years ago, but with NIL, fund raising and transfers, it is just another recent necessary change that has happened to the sport. Oklahoma announced their general manager hire this morning and it gained immediate support from across the country

Jim Nagy is a name that everyone around college football knows. Most recently he was the Senior Bowl Executive Director, a title he held since 2018. Prior to that, the Michigan graduate, spent 18 years in the NFL, mostly in the scouting department for the Seattle Seahawks, Kansas City Chiefs, New England Patriots, and the Washington Redskins. While in the NFL he was involved in six Super Bowls, which resulted in four Lombardi Trophies.
This is a splash hire by the Sooners. Nagy is someone that everyone in the college game and the NFL knows, trusts and likes. And because of that, the reaction regarding his hire was very positive:
Jim Nagy is a flat-out incredible pull for the #Sooners. Like, that’s beyond a home-run hire.

Jim Nagy (@JimNagy_SB) to Oklahoma is one of the best college football hires for any position in recent memory.
He’s made the Senior Bowl what it is.
He’s the driving force behind the idea that “the draft starts in Mobile.”
Forget home-run hire. It’s a walk-off grand slam.— Andrew Nemec (@AndrewNemec) February 26, 2025
That's a big-time move by Brent Venables and Oklahoma. Fair to say Jim Nagy is overqualified for a college GM role. His scouting experience and contacts will help a ton, especially in portal recruiting. https://t.co/6ssyOklVJW

This is just a small sample of the positive response regarding Nagy’s hire. It would be difficult to think of a hire that produced more immediate positive press than this. Well done Oklahoma.
