Usually when an SEC wide receiver finishes a season with 58 receptions for 866 yards and nine touchdowns, an invitation to the NFL Combine is a formality. However, that wasn’t the case for LSU’s Kyren Lacy, whose current legal situation will keep him from attending the annual event in Indianapolis.

Lacy is a first round talent, but the NFL decided that it did not want to deal with the possible and likely backlash that would come its way if they decided to send an invitation. One side of this argument is “innocent until proven guilty”, but if Lacy is eventually proven guilty, the NFL would have to answer questions it doesn’t want to deal with. So, their decision was to avoid the situation.

In the big picture, the NFL Combine isn’t the deciding factor on Lacy’s professional future. He has already done that by totaling 162 receptions for 2,360 yards and 26 touchdowns at LSU, a school which has consistently produced elite level wide receivers over the last year.
It is his off-the-field issues that are the deciding fact or his professional future, so Lacy needs to focus on that serious situation now. And if he is proven innocent, the NFL will happily welcome him with open arms.
