Lamar Jackson, Baker Mayfield, and the Best Players we Missed Out on in the NCAA Football Video Game Series

Looking at Lamar Jackson and the other elite players we missed out on playing with in the EA NCAA Football series.

The last NCAA Football video game to come out was in 2013. Michigan QB Denard Robinson was on the cover. Yes, it was that long ago. In my unbiased opinion, it is the best video game ever made. The new one comes out in a few months, so let’s take a look at the best players we missed out on in the years that the series was discontinued.

EA Sports NCAA College Football 25

Lamar Jackson

People would have used Lamar Jackson in NCAA Football the same way they do in Madden. Run, run, and run some more. He would have been even better relative to everybody else in the college game. Jackson would have been unstoppable, especially in that 2016 Heisman season. The Louisville QB would have been the best player in the game and would certainly be a cover athlete.

Christian McCaffrey

Christian McCaffery was a beast at Stanford, and was easily one of, if not the best, running backs in the country. He played at Stanford from 2014-2016, so he just missed the cut of being in the game by a year. McCaffrey had nearly 4,000 yards and 21 touchdowns in his Cardinal career. With his rushing and receiving ability, he would have been a menace to stop in the NCAA Football video game series.

Nov 19, 2016; Berkeley, CA, USA; Stanford Cardinal running back Christian McCaffrey (5) celebrates after a touchdown against the California Golden Bears during the third quarter at Memorial Stadium. The Stanford Cardinal defeated the California Golden Bears 45-31.

Baker Mayfield

Baker Mayfield would have easily been the most exciting player in the game during his prime. Him, alongside that electric Lincoln Riley Oklahoma offense, would have been so fun to play with and would have given defenses fits. Mayfield finished his Heisman-winning collegiate career with 14,607 passing yards with 131 touchdowns. The one-time Walk-on is one of the greatest college QBs of all time.

Nov 11, 2017; Norman, OK, USA; Oklahoma Sooners quarterback Baker Mayfield (6) runs during the game against the TCU Horned Frogs at Gaylord Family - Oklahoma Memorial Stadium.

2019 LSU

For the last two, I couldn’t think of one specific player, more like whole teams. 2019 LSU was on another level than everyone else. Joe Burrow, Justin Jefferson, Ja’Marr Chase, Thaddeus Moss, Clyde Edwards-Helaire, Derek Stingley, Grant Deplit, Patrick Queen, and many more would have been unstoppable in the game.

This team went undefeated and won the national championship. Almost every single game they played was a blowout too. In my opinion, this LSU team or that one Miami team from 2001 has to be the most stacked college team of all time.

LSU quarterback Joe Burrow (9) throws the ball under pressure from Alabama defensive lineman Christian Barmore (58) at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Ala., on Saturday, Nov. 9, 2019. LSU defeated Alabama 46-41.

2020 Alabama

Speaking of stacked teams, this 2020 Alabama team, especially the offense, was stacked. Their wide receiver won the Heisman for Pete’s sake. Mac Jones, Devonta Smith, Najee Harris, Jaylen Waddle, John Metchie, Brian Robinson Jr., Pat Surtain II, Christian Harris, Will Anderson Jr., Demarco Hellams, and Brian Branch. All of these guys are in the league now. Not to mention they had the best coach of all time in Nick Saban.

I know this was Covid year and everything was different, but this team was also different. They smacked up on everyone and that offense was essentially unstoppable. This offense would have been a cheat code in NCAA Football 21.

Oct 31, 2020; Tuscaloosa, Alabama, USA; Alabama quarterback Mac Jones (10) celebrates a touchdown pass with Alabama wide receiver DeVonta Smith (6) in the game with Mississippi State at Bryant-Denny Stadium.
