Lance Leipold, Hugh Freeze lead list of good coaches in bad times

Lance Leipold, Hugh Freeze lead list of good coaches in bad times

Good coaches having rough seasons and why:

1. Lance Leipold, Kansas

This is puzzling. Yes, it’s Kansas so a losing season can happen at anytime but based on what he’s built, the players that were coming back and how good a coach he is, it’s odd. The loss of OC Andy Kotelnicki hurts and Jeff Grimes has been the scapegoat.

2. Hugh Freeze, Auburn

Freeze, like him or not, is a good coach and will get time to build his roster but his quarterback situation is awful, he didn’t address it in the portal and it’s killing him.

3. Mike Norvell, Florida State

Norvell relied on the portal early as he came in during COVID and wasn’t able to hit the ground running on high school. He lost more than anyone when it comes to portal players and those losses have been a killer.

4. Dave Doeren, NC State

This one is hard to figure out as to what the issue is because they’ve been bad all over at times. His teams are usually physical, gritty and smart but haven’t played up to that level this season, especially on defense.

5. Mike Gundy, Oklahoma State

Like Freeze, Gundy didn’t address a clearly bad quarterback situation in the portal and it’s hurting. Bowman ain’t it.
